Welcome to the Study Group on Orientation and Introduction to Medical Education and to a Philippine College of Medicine.

Orientation and Introduction is a one-week course scheduled on the first week first semester first year in the 4-year medical curriculum designed by Dr. Reynaldo O. Joson in 1994.

For more information on RJoson Medical Curriculum model, you are welcome to inquire through the email: rjoson@pacific.net.ph

Why the phrase or name “Philippine College of Medicine”?

RJoson Medical Curriculum model has been used by Zamboanga Medical School Foundation; Southwestern University College of Medicine; and Bicol Christian College of Medicine. Once operational in June, 2001, the Colegio de Santa Isabel College of Medicine in Naga will also be using the RJoson Medical Curriculum model.

Since there are several medical schools or colleges of medicine in the Philippines utilizing or has utilized the RJoson Medical Curriculum model and since this study group is intended for all faculty and students in various medical schools or colleges of medicine in the Philippines utilizing the RJoson Medical Curriculum model, this electronic study group is given the name “pcm-orintro” which stands for Philippine College of Medicine – Orientation and Introduction. The phrase or name “Philippine College of Medicine” just refers to a or any medical school or college of medicine in the Philippines. At present, there is NO medical school or college of medicine which carries such a name. In short, “pcm” is used to encompass several medical schools or colleges of medicine in the Philippines which will participate in this study group.

Why this Electronic Study Group?

1. The Course “Orientation and Introduction to Medical Education” is continuously undergoing revision for improvement since 1994. Through this electronic study group, the programmer, Dr. Rey Joson, wants to get inputs from faculty and students utilizing it. The ultimate intention of the programmer encouraging feedback from both faculty and students and from various colleges of medicine in the Philipppines is to institutionalize this course not only in one or two colleges of medicine but in all colleges of medicine in the Philippines which will adopt the course.

2. Through this electronic study group, the programmer can conduct a distance education mode of training on this course on “Orientation and Introduction to Medical Education” not only to the faculty of colleges of medicine teaching it but also to the students enrolled in it as well.

3. This electronic study group will serve as a library or archive for the course on Orientation and Introduction to Medical Education.
