Intended users of primer:
Medical graduates – from a medical school, from a residency training program, from a fellowship program
Objective of primer:
To provide information and tips to help medical graduates start and establish a private medical practice in the Philippines
Background of primer:
I have been wanting to come out with a primer on how to start and establish a private medical practice as early as 1990 because I felt there is an information need on this topic for medical graduates in the Philippines. I started it but unfortunately was not able to finish it. This time, December, 2002, I resolve to finish it, hopefully by 2003. The 1990 plan was rekindled by my reflective attendance in the 2002 graduation ceremonies of Manila Doctors Hospital as well as that of my graduates from the Department of Surgery of Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center. I strongly felt with compassion the need of the graduates for assistance and guidance in establishing a private medical practice. For the OMMC surgical graduates, specifically, I felt they still needed more information and advice on top of the calling cards and PhP 5,000 cash that our department gave to assist them in starting their private medical practice.
I will be getting inputs from my clinic secretary (Ms. Ma. Lilibeth R. Tumambing) for information on licenses and government regulatory agencies. I hope to get inputs from private practitioners of varying specialties all over the country for tips on how to establish a private practice within and outside Metro Manila as well as on other related issues.
I plan to develop the primer by gathering and posting information through email and a webpage (http://privatemedpract_phil.tripod.com) [Note: still accessible as of May 1, 2024, but will try to have a back-up file in my other websites. – May 1, 2024.]
